The Case of the Left-handed Lady : an Enola Holmes Mystery

Children's Literature – Jean Boreen
This second book of the Enola Holmes mystery series picks up with the lead character's new life in London. Using a variety of aliases—Ivy Meshle, Mrs. Ragostin (wife of the learned Dr. Ragostin), and the Silent Sister of the Streets—Enola is able to craft an independent life away from that of her more famous brother, Sherlock Holmes, even as he searches for her. But when young Lady Cecily disappears, Enola becomes involved. She begins to work through a series of incredibly subtle hints that Cecily has left behind in her paintings and through a diary. As she figures out what has happened to Cecily, Enola also continues to try to communicate with her missing mother through a series of messages in the newspaper. But will Sherlock figure out how to use her mother's cipher before Enola can actually get her message through? Can Enola save Cecily from the mysterious unionizer who may not be what he seems? The characters of Enola and Sherlock continue to engage and this is another strong historical mystery that includes a wonderful message to young women concerning independence and identity.
