Children's Literature: Get ready for a wild and wooly read with this hilarious chapter book from the "Judy Moody" series. In this fast paced book, Judy's school time does not go as well as it should when her class gets a substitute teacher. Ultimately, the substitute convinces Judy's parents that Judy needs help with math. Her parents hire a college-aged tutor to help, and Judy's college experience begins. The fun-loving tutor finds excellent ways to present math work while using real life situations. At the same time, Judy is exposed to college life. Judy thrives in the setting and begins to think of herself as a college student. Her attempt to dress like a college student adds to the captivating tale. Humor that appears throughout the text is sure to keep young readers turning pages. Even chapter titles, including "Math-i-tude," "Brat-i-tude," "Cat-i-tude," and "Flunk-i-tude" are witty. Black and white illustrations feature Judy, her class, her college experience, and many of the humorous situations. Included at the end is a spiffy section called "Judy's Not-Webster's New World College Dictionary, First Edition." It contains definitions for many of the fun phrases that likable Judy learns at college. Phrases listed in the section include "geck," "hit me up later," and "ridonkulus." This well-written, entertaining chapter book is a plus for emerging readers looking for a longer book. Reviewer: Nancy Garhan Attebury
