School Library Journal Review: Starred Review. K-Gr 5?Cleverly organized around seven colors, including purple and pink, this book is jam-packed with visual and written information about scores of animals. Jenkins's signature vivid paper collages, startling in their detail and realism, have a sense of depth that was created by layering materials. Each image is accompanied by a short, well-written paragraph and an often humorous comment: "Put the food right here," demands the baby crow, reinforcing the text above it that explains why its mouth is bright red inside. The subjects range from the familiar (robin, chameleon, sloth) to the exotic (leaf oyster, pink fairy armadillo, leafy sea dragon). Back matter includes more facts about animal color and about the creatures themselves. Another amazing work by a master illustrator.?Lee Bock, Glenbrook Elementary School, Pulaski, WI Copyright ?
